WHY BUY LOCAL?
Paige McGowan - It is really important to buy goods from your local stores. It offers many benefits to our community. When you purchase goods from local stores, it keeps money in our community and supports small businesses in our area. By supporting these small businesses, it offers more jobs for the residents in the community since it is the largest supplier of jobs. These small businesses often purchase their supplies from the community, keeping money in the area. "For every $100 spent in locally owned, independent stores, $68 returns to the community through taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. If we spend that same amount in a national chain, only $43 stay in our community." (Independent We Stand).

HEALTH BENEFITS OF BUYING LOCAL
There are also many health benefits offered from buying local produce. Local foods have more nutrients and promote a safer food supply. "We know what we are getting and where it is coming from when we purchase a product from someone we know." (Michigan Farm Bureau). Our local farmers are able to tell us where our food and produce comes from and how it is grown.
